I’ve worked as a professional graphic recorder for ten years. For fifteen years before that, I sold art, got a masters degree, won some awards, and did a lot of teaching. But something was missing. My ideas felt tedious. I was trapped in my own experience of the world. So when I made my first drawing for a live conversation (not great looking) I left buzzing from everyone’s excitement. Graphic Recording connects. I got to listen to really interesting new perspectives. It’s art about others. It allowed more belief into my life. I always wanted to serve my community more directly with art, and now I could.

Now having worked with hundreds of wonderful clients, I can tell you, my work still has it’s own voice and bias, but I am very adaptable. Clients tell me they’re grateful when I find exciting new analogies for their conversations. Someone once said, “What you do is what listening looks like,” and I inspired them to pay closer attention too. They just like seeing something beautiful while they’re talking about hard problems. It keeps their hearts open. When clarity is out of reach, my artwork helps them revisit new ideas, and find clarity over time. I have some examples here I’d like to share from some of my favorite projects. Thanks again for spending time here! —Tim
